Politecnico di Milano

Politecnico di Milano Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) coordinates the project and participates with researchers from the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione, in sectors that traditionally operate separately, to provide a design, methodological, and architectural support to the development of adaptive multilevel information systems. The main research activities in the MAIS project are in the following areas:

  • e-service retrieval and flexible invocation
  • web service design
  • adaptive networks and protocols
  • microdatabases
  • low power processors design

The research is coordinated by Prof. Barbara Pernici.

Università di Brescia, coordinated by Prof. Valeria De Antonellis, cooperates with Politecnico di Milano in the definition of the reference framework for the project and in designing tools for creating e-service ontologies.

Cefriel

CefrielThe CEFRIEL consortium (Consorzio per la formazione e la ricerca in Ingegneria dell'Informazione), founded in 1988, is interested in defining a comprehensive model through which it is possible to implement adaptive multichannel information systems. It will collaborate strictly with Politecnico di Milano in WP3 studying aspects bound to the transmission level and at the datalink level. With the Bicocca unit, it will participate in the definition and implementation of the reflexive platform allowing for access to e-services with variable characteristics. It will also collaborate to the activities of WP1 and WP7 on the basis of previous academic and applied research on the theme of interactions in multichannel systems.

Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca (Bicocca)

Università degli Studi di Milano BicoccaThe competencies that DISCo (Dipartimento di Informatica, Sistemistica e Comunicazione) of Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca (Bicocca) provides to the project regard software architectures, distributed platforms, support systems to cooperative work and testing methodologies. The activities related to software architectures will be centered on an object-oriented approach for the definition and construction of strongly modular and re-configurable architectures for monitoring systems, for real time control, and for e-business applications. DISCo will coordinate WP3 Reflexive architectures and will participate in WP1 Analysis of multichannel information systems and general model, WP2 E-services, WP6 Monitoring tools, WP8 Exploitation, collaborating with the other units to define an integrated development and execution environment.

Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza"

Universita' degli Studi di Roma La SapienzaUniversità degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza" (Roma1) participates in the project with researchers of Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica (DIS), who are expert in the area of distributed systems, of usability, of cooperative information systems, and of management and economical evaluation of IT. Roma1 participates in the definition of the general model and in the definition of economic evaluation models in WP1, in the development of the platform for e-service management in WP2 and of the platform for management of context information in WP3. In WP7, it takes care of methods and tools to evaluate usability. In collaboration with AIPA and CNR-IROE, the unit studies the problem of usability of interfaces to information systems for disabled users.

Università Roma Tre

Universita' Roma TreUniversità Roma Tre (Roma3) participates in the activities of the project with researchers from Dipartimento di Informatica e Automazione (DIA), whose competencies are in the definition of models and languages for extraction of information from Web sites and for the design and implementation of large Web sites, experimented through various prototypes. The main contribution of the unit will be the study of techniques and algorithms for automatic generation of sites adaptive to the type of device in WP7, of which the unit will be the coordinator. It will also collaborate to the project activities where the architectural and methodological context is defined (WP1) and to the definition of end-to-end protocols between remote application entities (WP4). eBMS (e-Business Management School) is a "Scuola Superiore Universitaria" (University High School) of ISUFI-Università di Lecce (Istituto Superiore Universitario di Formazione Interdisciplinare, ISUFI. For the research line on ICT and knowledge management, the research unit intends to integrate, in the model of architecture of the proposed platform, tools and methodologies of "knowledge management" to carry on the analysis of profiles of usage of information systems at the various architectural levels, coordinating WP6.

STMicroelectronics S.r.l.

STMicroelectronics S.r.l.The STMicroelectronics S.r.l. company (ST) has competencies in the development and production of NVM, dedicated products (telecon, peripherals, autonics), standard and discrete devices, on-chip systems, and so on, besides the basic and industrial research in various advanced sectors related to microelectronics. The target in the project is to increase the know-how at the system level and to increment the portfolio of intellectual properties of the company in strategic applications that will govern the market of semiconductors, participating in the activities of WP5. In particular, the interest is oriented to the study and definition of specifications of low power architectures for web, presenting particular characteristics of flexibility and scalability.

Engineering

EngineeringThe Engineering company participates in the project through its Laboratories of Roma and Palermo, with specific competencies in the field of Software Development and Knowledge Management and of multichannel banking information systems. The research will focus on architectural functional and context representation issues, besides methodologies and tools of design and integration of channels (WP1, WP2, WP7). Target of the participation in the project is the possibility to consolidate the knowledge on themes regarding the development of banking multichannel tellers and the extension of knowledge on KM applied to the management of system users (WP6). The goal is to transfer the innovative results of the research to the application area of multichannel tourism information systems.

Università degli Studi di Lecce

Università degli Studi di LecceThe eBMS (e-Buiness Management School) is the school of the ISUFI-Università di Lecce (Istituto Superiore Universitario di Formazione Interdisciplinare). On subjects like ICT and Knowledge Management, the research department is willing to integrate, in the proposed architectural model, "knowledge management" tools and metodologies, to analyze information systems' usage at different architectural levels, coordinating the WP6.
